The Marie-Elisabeth Belpaire Building will be the largest circular office building in Belgium, mainly because the two WTC towers that will be replaced by the new ZIN project will largely be retained in the project.
"Of the old towers, 65% were left standing to be given a new life in the ZIN project," says Frank Geets, general manager of the Facility Management Department. "The remaining 35% of the former WTC towers - material from dismantling, but also furniture, for example - is almost entirely used on site, either integrally or after recycling. In this way, 95% of the old towers will eventually get a second life in the new project. The remaining 5% will go to other construction projects.
Another example of sustainable innovation is the horizontal and vertical mounting of solar panels, which will keep employees in the new offices warm and cool. You can see how the solar panels were installed in this timelapse video .
Every month, Flemish authorities share a timelapse video on their website of last month's works for the Belpaire building. This way, they keep all interested parties informed without having to do anything themselves: the new timelapses appear automatically on the site, thanks to d plug-in provided by C-Site.
On the project website , you can view the monthly timelapse videos.
